MATCH REPORTS Sun, Aug 31st - Ballincollig A 1 - 2 Ballinhassig The U11’s had their very first outing of the U11 League
with a visit to Regional Park to play Ballincollig. Ballinhassig boys
definitely started the brighter, and for a while all the play was at the
Ballincollig goal, with supporters at one stage wondering what we were
going to have to do to get that all exclusive first goal, Cian O’Mahony
was unlucky on numerous occasions, but great determination saw him drive
forward and put a ball through to Jason Desmond, who was dominating the
left wing and he had no hesitation in placing the ball in the back of
the net. On the right wing Ben Spillane was proving to be very tricky
and put some good ball through to Philip Grant to keep us looking for
a 2nd goal. At the other end Ballincollig threatened very little and superb
defending from William Greene, Liam Wheelan, Jack Keating and Darren O’Leary
made sure goalkeeper Arthur O’Leary had little to do. The hard work
in the middle of the park by Eoin McCarthy and Peter Murphy in the 1st
half continued and in the 2nd half with help from substitute Kevin McGuire,
kept Ballincollig at bay when they came hunting that equaliser, unfortunately
20 mins into the half saw a rather “dubious” penalty awarded
to Ballincollig. The game was drawn at 1-1, substitute Eoin Buckley brought
life back into the game and was very unlucky not to score on his first
run with the ball. Cian O’Mahony had a great chance at goal minutes
later but a fine piece of goalkeeping from the Ballincollig keeper denied
him. Conor Bohane and Eoin O’Callaghan were brought on to relieve
tired legs, Ballinhassig won a corner and even though a good few players
had an attempt in the box it was deservedly Cian O’Mahony who sneaked
the ball past the Ballincollig keeper. It took hard work and strong defending
to keep Ballincollig from equalising , but that they did and were truly
deserving of their first three points. Great team effort. |
