Boys Under 16 Manager s: Michael Ahern (087-7536350) Training : To Be Confirmed
MATCH REPORTS After an absence of
a season it is great to see this bunch of young men (now all about a foot
taller) back playing soccer in Gortnaglough. They are under the guidance
of Michael Ahern and they started their league
campaign with a defeat away to Park United. The visitors started the
brighter and should have been 2 or 3 goals up at half time but failed
to take the chances that were presented to them. With Eoin
O'Riordan and Paul Collins pulling the strings in midfield and Sean
Coleman and Mark O'Mahony solid at the back, Ballinhassig played the
better football in the first half. Ryan O'Leary and Liam Swan had
the best chances in the first half but failed to
capitalise. Ballinhassig were made to pay for their missed
chances when Park broke the deadlock from a corner just before half
time. Park started the 2nd half the livelier and went 3 nil up
through two quick fire goals. To their credit Ballinhassig never gave up
and pulled a goal back through Ryan O'Leary from a Paul Collins free kick
on the left. Driven on by Patrick O'Leary and Paul Collins
Ballinhassig kept plugging away and were unlucky with a couple of chances
through Ryan O'Leary and Michael Collins. A disappointing start for
Ballinhassig but despite the result, the team can take a lot of positives
from the game.

SATURDAY 13TH February BALLINHASSIG (4) V BLARNEY Utd (0) - League A Ballinhassig team not content with missing 5 of their regulars also had the daunting task of facing top of the table Blarney Utd in Gortnagloch. However 2 goals in each half without reply gave the Blues their first league victory in 4. It has to be said that this was a very strong Ballinhassig performance including two of the best goals ever seen in Gornagloch.
The scoring was opened with a very cheeky but delightful lob from Robert Murphy halfway through first half in Eric Cantona fashion. Diarmuid Donovan grabbed a second to steady Ballinhassig before the break. Instead of sitting back on their advantage the home team came out for the second half even stronger and more determined, and the constant pressure was eventually repaid when Eoin O’Riordan scored an absoluter rocket from 30 yards. Patrick O’Leary was rewarded for his man of the match display with Ballinhassigs fourth minutes from time. Best for Ballinhassig were Patrick O’Leary, Robert Murphy Eoin O’Riordan and Diarmuid Cahill.
