Ballinhassig were 2 – 1 winners against Douglas hall in a close contest at a blustery Gortnaglough on Sunday. Ballinhassig playing with a strong wind shaded the first half. Shauna McCarthy just back from injury linked up well with Aisling Lee on the left wing and mounted some good attacks but the Douglas defence were difficult to break down. The breakthrough came after 25 minutes when midfielder Miriam Reardon managed to thread a low ball through the defence to the net.  She had a second similar goal about ten minutes later to leave Ballinhassig leading 2 nil at the break.  Shortly after the restart Ballinhassig keeper Marie Barrett who was very assured throughout left a high dropping ball drop to her feet only to be pounced on by the Douglas striker 2 – 1. In the closing quarter Douglas attacked more but the defensive pairing of  Emma O’Donovan and Aileen O’Leary coped well to hold out for the win.
