WEDNESDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER RIVERSTOWN V BALLINHASSIG

Ballinhassig went into this game knowing it was going to be one of the toughest of the season and win would see them lift the league title for the C.W.S.S.L. 1st Division - a great achievement for their first season. They also knew that Riverstown were still clinging on to the hope that they could spoil that hope for the Ballinhassig girls, and that we would slip in our remaining matches. Riverstown took the lead half way through the 1st half, not the way the blues wanted the game to go, as it meant Riverstown shut up shop and played a pure defensive game. Katie McCarthy and Aileen O'Leary were unlucky a couple of times, Katie especially found herself under pressure being constantly crowded out of the shooting range. The 2nd half found the Ballinhassig girls determined to go. Riverstown continued to try and slow the game down.  The equaliser came as virtually the last kick of the game, much to Ballinhassig's joy and Riverstown frustration. A never say die performance. Ballinhassig are playing at home next Wednesday night v Millstreet, a win will mean we lift the title on the night but Millstreet are also battling relegation, so a mighty contest will be had.
