Match Reports:

There has been a change in management with the Munster Senior League team, and we welcome into the club Paul Doyle. Anybody who has been in Gortnaglough recently will have witnessed this man at work and the enthusiasm he brings with him. His pre-season friendlies included a visiting team from Dublin who after the match were shown Ballinhassig’s hospitality with a fabulous spread in Five Mile Bridge, a great afternoon had by all. After that it was down to the more serious matches.  The Keane Cup was first up and they took on Crooshaven, on paper Ballinhassig would have been the favourites but unfortunately that tag can be the downfall, Ballinhassig took a beating, which we hope will be learned from and we move on.

Sunday 13th  v's Casement Celtic

Game started pretty open and Ballinhassig could have opened the scoring with a speculative strike from 30 yards from Richard O Regan which narrowly missed the bottom left hand post. Both teams had a fair share of posession and it was Casement that took the lead on 30 mins with a ball curled into the near post by Carl Caughfield of the opposition side and neatly headed home from the Casement centre forward. this was theonly real chance Casement had in the first half of play. Ballinhassig pressed late in the half and when a shot from Kevin Walsh was blocked and a Christy O Brown effort was cleared off the line Casement cleared and went in with the lead at half time.

The second half started where the first half left off with Ballinhassig winning the majority of the posession. Michael Ahern got on the ball a lot in the opening part of the second half and created a few half chances linking up down the flanks. Ballinhassig put alot of pressure on the Casement defence but the stood resolute. The introduction of John Lawler gave Ballinhassig an outlet down the left and with David Kenny not long on the field he also created a threat in the opposition box. In defence Don Forde was solid, Michael ahern and Richard O Regan contained midfield and Colin Barrett worked very hard up front. With all Ballinhassig's posession there were few clear cut chances and late in the game Casement broke and were 2 v 2. A professional foul saw Jason McCarthy get his marching orders. It took the coating off what was a decent display from the makeshift sweeper on the day. Man of the match on the day form Ballinhassig went to Don Forde at centre back who had a consistantly solid performance.

The final score meant that Ballinhassig got nothing out of a game that they had most of the possesion, but it is early days and we will not be waiting too long for this talented side to get their first points on the board.

Final Score Ballinhassig 0 Casement Celtic 1
